That same year, slightly more than 24 percent of adults agreed with the statement: "Health insurance is not worth the money it costs." Today's Headlines:AHRQ Invites Centers of Excellence Applicants for PCOR Dissemination AHRQ seeks to award cooperative agreements for development of up to three Centers of Excellence on Comparative Health System Performance as part of the agency's patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) dissemination work. The "Comparative Health System Performance in Accelerating PCOR Dissemination (U19)" funding opportunity announcement requests applications for work to increase the use of PCOR findings by health care organizations and their clinicians. The work also would involve comparing the performance of these systems with each other and with the performance of more traditional delivery systems. The deadline for applications is October 17, 2014. The goal of the announcement is to provide a better understanding of health care delivery systems in order to better target PCOR dissemination so that systems can more quickly adopt high-performance practices and improve patient outcomes. CHIPRA Implementation Guide Now Available For Engaging Stakeholders AHRQ has published a new implementation guide to help state officials and other program administrators engage and partner with stakeholders in initiatives to improve the quality of child health care. It is the first implementation guide from the national evaluation of the Children's Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2009 (CHIPRA) Quality Demonstration Grant Program. "Engaging Stakeholders to Improve the Quality of Children's Health Care" is an online guide that builds on the early strategies, lessons learned and challenges from Georgia, Idaho and Massachusetts to help other states plan and implement structures to support meaningful stakeholder engagement in child health care quality improvement initiatives. It includes a five-step approach to engaging stakeholders, breaking down each step into smaller tasks and providing key points and resources to consider throughout the process. The CHIPRA Quality Demonstration Grant Program aims to identify effective, replicable strategies for enhancing the quality of health care for children. AHRQ is leading the national evaluation of these demonstrations. The national evaluation is funded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. New AHRQ Monograph Addresses Mental Health: First- Versus Second-Generation Antipsychotics A continuing-education monograph from AHRQ is now available that compares individual first- and second-generation antipsychotic medications in adults with schizophrenia, schizophrenia-related psychoses or bipolar disorder. The monograph, based on a comparative effectiveness review from AHRQ's Effective Health Care Program, reviews evidence comparing the effectiveness and side effects of individual drugs and lists questions for patients and health care providers to consider before choosing a treatment. Register Now: July 31 Webinar on Implementing Novel Health IT Interventions AHRQ is hosting a free webinar July 31 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. ET, titled "The Impact of Implementing Novel Health IT Interventions for Cancer Screening, Diabetes and Childhood Illnesses." Measuring the effectiveness of an intervention is an important step in the implementation process and helps to determine its success. Speakers will review the methodology, implementation and evaluation of health information technology interventions that affect preventive cancer screening rates, diabetes outcome measures and use of telemedicine services for acute childhood illnesses.

August 12 Webinar Will Focus on Preventing Falls in Long-Term Care Settings AHRQ is hosting the fourth in a series of four webinars August 13 from 1 to 2 p.m. ET on the use of "Improving Patient Safety in Long-Term Care Facilities Training Modules." The webinar, developed for nurses and staff educators in long-term care facilities, will focus on falls prevention and management. Continuing education credits will be available to participants at no cost. Registration is free, but space is limited. The first three webinars provided an overview of the series, tools to train staff on how to detect change in a resident's condition and tools on how best to communicate change in a resident's condition. Registration is open. Call for Abstracts Deadline Nearing for Seventh Annual Dissemination and Implementation Conference The deadline is approaching for speakers to submit abstracts for the 7th Annual Conference on the Science of Dissemination and Implementation. The conference is scheduled for December 8 and 9 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The call for abstracts submission deadline is August 8. Applicants will be notified of acceptance by September 8. The conference seeks research and conceptual papers that address a range of topics, with emphasis on integrating evidence-based interventions within clinical community settings and making them more relevant and actionable in those settings. The conference is co-hosted by the National Institutes of Health and AcademyHealth and co-sponsored by AHRQ, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
