FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE News Brief: U.S. EPA Accepting Public Comments on Cleanup Plan for National Fireworks OU2 Superfund Site Contact Information: James Pinkney, (404) 562-9183 (Direct), (404) 562-8400 (Main) pinkney.james@epa.gov Atlanta-The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) will host a public meeting and begin accepting comments on its proposed plan to clean up the National Fireworks (OU) 2 Superfund Site. EPA's proposed cleanup plan for the site consists of treating the contaminated groundwater and contaminated subsurface soil at the site using Phytoremediation. Phytoremediation involves planting trees to remove and degrade the chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs) in soil and groundwater. The Public comment begins August 20, 2014 and ends September 18, 2014.
