EPA Convenes Inter-Agency Working Group on Environmental Justice to Address Concerns in North Birmingham CommunitiesContact Information: James Pinkney, (404) 562-9183 (Direct), (404) 562-8400 (Main) pinkney.james@epa.gov (ATLANTA – August 4, 2014) Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the City of Birmingham will host a Federal Interagency Working Group (IWG) on Environmental Justice, specifically focused on the North Birmingham area, at Vulcan Park in Birmingham AL.
A press availability has been scheduled for 4:45 after the IWG Meeting for the Federal Regional Administrators, Birmingham Mayor and other officials.
The goal of the meeting is to work with other federal agencies to assist with revitalization efforts towards making a visible difference in the communities impacted by potential environmental concerns, blight and degradation. The meeting is expected to include Mayor William A. Bell, Sr. and Councilor William Parker, along with other City of Birmingham officials and community stakeholders who will share ongoing efforts, challenges and needs. The proposed agenda includes a tour of the area, and will include time for the agencies in attendance to share information on resources and technical assistance available to support the needs of North Birmingham.
